Troubleshooting No Lights On The Curt Echo C51180

Question:

I plug it in to the 7-way connector and the light on the unit does not turn on, but the trailer lights go on. What can I try?

The light on the Curt Echo # C51180 should turn blue when it is paired and connected to your phone. It would then turn green when the trailer is connected. First make sure your brake controller is correctly paired with your device, then plug in to your trailer. You should see a solid green light.

If you do not see lights of any color, the first thing you want to do is make sure the connection is secure. If the 7-way is not fully seated in the Echo then it won't detect the trailer. Assuming it is, I would go ahead and inspect your trailer wiring. Make sure nothing is damaged and also check your ground connections. Make sure they are secure on a clean, bare-metal surface.

If this does not resolve the issue, feel free to contact me and I can help to troubleshoot further if needed.

Im having the same issues on my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I plugged the Curt Echo into the 7 pin socket turned on the lights, but I see no lights on the device.

@ScottV When the light on the Curt Echo does not illuminate this means you are not getting power to your 7-way or you have a bad ground. Double check that your have 12v power at the auxiliary circuit (1:00 pin). Also make sure your 7-way is grounded to good clean metal free of rust or corrosion. You may also want to double check the vehicles fuses, especially the trailer/towing fuses to make sure everything is as it should be.

@JesseM wouldn't all the wiring be correct? If I can hook my camper up to the plug and all the lights and brakes work fine?

@Scott You would think so yes. To troubleshoot this we would always start by verifying we have 12v power on the 1:00 pin. Also check the trailer connector and ground for rust or corrosion. That way we can start narrowing down the cause of the issue. If the 12v/ground/fuses all check out, we can narrow it down to a problem with the controller itself. This is rare but not unheard of. In these cases you can use the lifetime warranty to get a new one. In some cases we also recommend that you give Curt a call so their techs can help you troubleshoot while you are there at your camper with the controller in hand. Don't hesitate to reach out if there is anything else I can do to assist.
