Can a B&W Companion 5th Wheel Hitch Be Locked Out To Prevent Sliding

Question:

I have a BandW companion 5th wheel hitch in my 2022 Ram 2500 CrewCab with the 6’ bed. I have a Reflections 150 Series 280RS. I has the ability to change the pivot point of the 5th wheel back to the bumper. I purchase a block to lock the trailer from tuning on the hitch in the truck. Are using blocks to lock the hitch a good idea and safe for towing and longevity? Thank you.

Expert Reply:

Yes It's completely fine to lockout your B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w/ Slider for Ram Towing Prep Package # BWRVK3670.

However, preventing this hitch from sliding isn't a good idea with a short bed, unless you have a pivoting pin box. Otherwise, you are going to run into clearance issues between the cab of your truck and your trailer.

But, it sounds like you already have this on your trailer so you'll be just fine. Also, as long as you take care of your hitch and keep it properly maintained as specified by the manufacturer, it'll last you just as long as if you used it as a slider.
