Troubleshooting A Trailer Jack That Only Works When Trailer Is Connected to Shore Power

Question:

My power jack does not work off a fully charged battery or when plugged into the tow vehicle but will work when the trailer is plugged into a 110 outlet. What steps should I take to trouble shoot?

If your trailer jack is only working when your trailer is plugged into shore power then the first thing I'd check for would be your wiring to your jack.

A bad ground is usually the culprit for a variety of issues and can make your equipment do weird things. So, while you're checking your wiring to your jack, I'd check also that your grounds are clean and secured tightly to a bare metal surface.

If you notice any bad wires or connections, replace them and check again for functionality. You may need to re-route your ground connection if you notice it's not in a good spot.

Feel free to come back if you're still having trouble and we'll be happy to help you troubleshoot further.
