Troubleshooting Curt 2-Wire to 3-Wire Converter Installation on Trailer
Question:
I have a 2014 Chevy Traverse that had a wiring package installed by U-Haul. It is a 4 way flat. The trailer I am pulling has separate brake/tail lights and turn signals. When I plugged into the trailer the break lights also worked as the turn signals. The yellow turn signals did not work. I purchased a Curt 2 to 3 wire tailgate converter part number 56196 and installed per institutions. The tail lights and turn signals do work separately now, however when I press the break the turn signals go solid unless turn signal is in use. The lights on the trailer are LED lights. Also the 2 to 3 wire converter unit makes an unusual squeak sound as it blinks. Please help, what is wrong? I want my trailer turn signal lights to only work when the turn signal is on.

The Curt 2 to 3 Wire Tail Light Converter # C56196 is definitely designed to separate out the light functions like you're wanting (Curt claims it won't work with LED lights but that's been debatable) but I do see the problem with your installation.
You ran your stop/trun light wires from the 4-Way plug to the converter, but you also bypassed the converter and have those same wires on the output end of the converter. Once you eliminate the yellow and green wires from being on both ends of the converter your stop and turn functions will be separated out and work correctly.
