Will The Curt Adjustable Trailer Receiver 13703 Lose Capacity Without Using Vertical Mounting Holes?

Question:

In the installation instructions step 3. I was not able to drill the Vertical holes because my frame does not permit. Does this effect the weight capacity in any way? STEP 3: Using the frame brackets as a template, drill 4 holes horizontally per side. If frame clearance permits, drill two vertical holes per side for added clamping into the vehicles frame rails as shown

Helpful Expert Reply:

Not being able to drill the vertical holes to install the Curt Receiver # 13703 will not reduce the weight capacity. These holes are only added to increase rigidity of the receiver if they can be added. Do be sure to contact the trailer manufacturer to determine if the frame is capable of fully supporting the maximum 350lbs tongue weight and 3,500lbs trailer weight.
