Double-Sided Lock Options To Prevent Kids From Opening An Exterior RV Door

Question:

Good morning. I own a Travel Trailer that I need help with a door handle and lock solution. There’s a rear storage access door that opens right into our bunk bed area. That door currently has the typical RV door handle double lock configuration that can be opened from the interior without a key. We’d like to be able to lock that door such that our small children cannot open that door from the inside. I’ve considered installing a double cylinder deadbolt that requires a key to unlock from BOTH sides of the door. Like this: L32CS3208 But I’d like to find a better option, if possible. One that doesn’t require drilling a hole in my door. Is there a door handle that does what I describe where it can’t be unlocked from the interior without a key? Or… is there a different standalone locking mechanism I can install on the interior to lock that door from the inside and cannot be easily unlocked by children? Thanks

A double-sided deadbolt lock like the Valterra Deadbolt Lock for RVs or Mobile Homes # L32CS3208 is going to be the option that we currently offer to secure the door how you want to, but the reason the current lock is able to open from the inside without the key is for safety in the event of a fire. If you have a removable window in that area to escape then you'd still be fine.
