Troubleshooting Shackle Straps That Hit The Center Equalizer Hanger

Question:

Hi, I recently upgraded my shackles with the morryde kit, and also went with road armor equalizers on my triple axle toyhauler. Many reviewers commented that they had to go with the 3 1/8 shackles over their standard 2 1/4. So I went ahead and got the 3 1/8 right off the bat. My center axle is closer to the rear axle and the rear axle shackle is hitting the equalizer hanger. I took a bunch of pictures, but Im thinking maybe I should have went with the 2 1/4. Would you be able to tell me if going with those would help my problem?

Trailer suspension isn't an exact science so it's typically best to stick with the same spacing for your components so that the suspension can travel properly. The the equalizer and shackle straps need to form a "W" shape when installed. If your shackle straps sit too far in or too far out the suspension can travel and essentially gets stuck and will end up wear the components (usually the leaf springs) pretty quickly.

If you start changing the spacing of one component it ends up throwing off the rest and can result in you needing to replace your leaf springs and/or hangers. I recommend switching back to the 2-1/4" shackles like part # MR86ZR, but I wouldn't mind taking a look at the pictures you have to get a better idea of how your suspension is sitting if you'd like to send them in.
