Recommended Hitch or Roof Top Carrier for a 2022 Kia Sportage Carrying A Lot of Heavy Chicken Stuff
Question:
Hi I want to carry my chicken stuff on a cargo rack on my car. My chickens have lots of heavy stuff. The car has a 2inch hitch but also has a roof rack, so which one should I utilize?

Personally, I would go with a hitch mounted cargo carrier. The reason being, you mentioned a lot of heavy stuff. Not only can a hitch mounted carrier support more weight, it also means that you will not have to lift all of that weight up to the roof of your Sportage.
I like the 24x60 etrailer Cargo Carrier # e98874. This carrier can support up to 500 lbs. (make sure not to exceed the tongue weight for your specific hitch) but it also has a tilt and fold option. This means you can tilt the carrier down (even with chicken stuff loaded) to get into the cargo area of your Sportage or fold it up against the vehicle when it is not in use.
If just the hitch carrier isn't enough for all of the chicken stuff, you can always add a roof mounted carrier as well. The Yakima OffGrid Roof Cargo Basket # Y07138-08 is compatible with your 2022 Kia Sportage and will provide a 62" Long x 40" Wide basket that can support up to 165 lbs. of gear.
