Why Doesn't My 2" Trailer Ball fit Into My 2" Coupler?
Question:
I have a trailer with I believe a 2inch coupler, but a 2inch ball is too big and the 1 7/8th ball is loose. Any ideas on how or why its like that? Any way to resolve it? Do I have to remove the coupler thats welded on and attach another? Thanks!

I would definitely go back to using a 2" ball because the 1-7/8" is going to be entirely too small and there'll be too much movement in the coupler.
What likely has to happen is you need to adjust your coupler to fit the ball. Inside the coupler where the ball hooks up there'll be an adjustment nut that you can loosen to allow the ball to fit.
I've attached a picture showing the underside of a 2" coupler and circled the adjustment nut mentioned.
