Recommended Scissor Jacks For A Forest River Rockwood Travel Trailer

Question:

I have a Rockwood 26inch Travel Trailer at 7500 lbs. The stabilizer scissor jacks are heavily rusted and I want to replace them. Can you advise what weight capacity I would need at each corner for this rv? Also, can you suggest a scissor jack that is best for peeling and rust resistance? Thank you.

Scissor jacks don't actually support that much of the trailer's weight, more just the downward force on the trailer from moving around inside of it so the Scissor Stabilizer Jacks w/ Handle # TJSCHD-24-4 you were looking at would be more than adequate. Scissor jacks are only designed to fill the space between your trailer and the ground to provide a stronger base and prevent the springboard effect in your trailer from the weight shifting around. It's very common for people to mistake the purpose of the jack and use it to level the trailer and end up destroying the jacks.

As for rust resistance, pretty much every scissor jack is just powder coated so there really isn't a difference in quality between different brands, unless you switch over to some like the Ark Drop Down Corner RV Stabilizer Jacks # AR34FR. These are made with a zinc coating to help prevent rust and corrosion.
