How to Switch Out the Lock Cores on a Yakima FullSwing Bike Rack That Will Not Unlock
Question:
I have a Yakima Fullswing rack for my SUV. I can get the key into/out of the lock, but the lock doesnt do anything I think its shot. Is there any way, with effort, to remove the lock and put in a new core if I cant currently unlock it, or is this rack toast?

I do have a solution for you other than getting rid of the whole Yakima FullSwing Bike Rack # Y02465. But unfortunately, in order to change out the lock core, the locks would need to be unlocked.
You would either need to drill out the lock core and replace the speed-knob assembly with the Replacement SpeedKnob and Wedge Assembly for Yakima Bike Racks # 8880508 with new same-key lock cores # Y07202.
Or you could call a lock smith to get the lock unlocked and replace just the lock cores using the same-key lock cores # Y07202.
It doesn't sound like this is the issue since you said the key goes in and out ok. But you could also try gently tapping the key into the lock to ensure it is completely seated. Sometimes rust, corrosion and debris can cause the key to not fully insert into the lock.
