Recommended Reese Weight Distribution System for a 5,890 lbs Trailer
Question:
I want to use the Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control - Trunnion Bar. It apparently only comes in 2 weight classes. My loaded trailer weight is 5890 lbs with a tongue weight of 780 lbs includes items in truck bed behind axel. Towing vehicle 2019 F150 w/ max towing package rated to 1300 TW and 12,300 lbs trailer. Trailer is Air Stream 23 ft, unloaded weight of 5000 lbs. This is right on the crossover point for the two weight classes available for this hitch 12000 GTW, 700-1200 TW or 8000 GTW, 500 - 800 TW. Do you recommend using the smaller or larger weight class hitch? thanks

Helpful Expert Reply:
I recommend using the 800 lbs Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control item # RP66083. It has a tongue weight range of 400 lbs - 800 lbs.
The 1,200 Reese Strait-Line Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control item # RP66084 is going to be over capacity for a 500 lbs - 800 lbs tongue weight and it will be pretty stiff and uncomfortable to drive.
