Recommended Trailer Brake Assemblies For Lippert 7k Axles
Question:
I have 2 2019 Lippert 7000 lb axles on my rv and wanted to know which replacement brakes I need and how to know if they are self adjusting without tearing them apart?

Since you have 7k axles it's fairly easy to pick out new brake assemblies for your trailer. You'll just want to know the type of brakes you have (electric or hydraulic) and then you can measure the brake assemblies you currently have to doublecheck the sizing. That being said, a 12" x 2" electric brake assembly is the most common option used on 7k axles so the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting # AKEBRK-7-SA would most likely be a compatible option. These assemblies are self-adjusting so you wouldn't have to regularly adjust them after the initial setup.
If you wanted to save a bit money you could go with # AKEBRK-6. but you'll need to make sure you check your brakes routinely and adjust them accordingly. Since you have tandem axles you'll need two kits and some heat shrink butt connectors # DW05744-10 to reconnect to the wiring. Make sure that you place the brake assemblies on the correct side as they are labeled RH (right-hand) or LH (left-hand) and it's easy to accidentally put them on the incorrect side and then see issues. I've attached a couple of Dave's videos for these assemblies to help walk you through the replacement process.
While you have the hub/drums off now would also be a good time to repack your bearings and check the drums for any deep scratches or gouges and replace any damaged components. To repack the inner bearing you'll have to remove the grease seal. If you can't see a number on the grease any longer you can measure the inner and outer diameter with a set of calipers to determine the size and I can find a compatible replacement for you.
