Recommended Frame Mount Bike Rack With Lights For A 40lb E-Bike

Question:

Hi. Im hoping you can recommend a couple of hitch-mounted bike racks. I have a Dutch-style bike step-through with fenders that I just converted to be an e-bike. It now weighs about 40 lbs. The Thule rack I own is rated to 37.5 lbs each bike. I have been really loyal to Thule. Does Thule make any platform racks rated for e-bikes that also have brake lights installed? The EasyFold doesnt seem to have lights. I found a Thule VeloSpace rack online, but I dont see it on your site and dont know if its for heavier bikes. thanks for your help!

The only bike rack that we currently offer that has lights already installed on it is the Saris Door County Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes # SAR42RR. This bike rack is a frame mount design so it won't affect your fenders, but would require a frame adapter # TH982XT since you have a step-thru frame. It's rated for 60lbs per bike, so it would be more than capable of hauling your 40lb bike.

The Thule EasyFold XT Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes # TH903202 would be a great option as well, except for it doesn't have the lights that you want. If you wanted to still stick with Thule brand then you could just add on the Curt Auxiliary LED Indicator Lights # C53201 to the back of it. This rack has a 65lb per bike capacity and would also require a frame adapter in order to secure your bike.

We do not currently offer the Thule VeloSpace, but it appears to have what you need as far as capacity (66lbs), mounting style (frame mount), and lights. The connector type on it appears to be a 13-pin, which would indicate that this rack is probably only sold in Europe and would require a a bit of work to be compatible with US style 4 or 7-pin connectors. You can try reaching out to Thule directly to see if they can offer more insight on this rack though since I'm not very familiar with it.
