Correct Wiring Harness for 2014 BMW X3 xDrive28i
Question:
Double checking before I order. Im buying a 2014 BMW X3 xDrive28i. Not delivered yet, so I cant confirm details on the vehicle. For this model, however, Is the 119190KIT the right option? I watched the installation video for this particular vechicle, and it seemed to be straigtforward. One of my concerns is that I have a BMW factory installed option shown as SDSL, which is described as Trailer Coupling Preparation.inch Searching the BMW forums Ive learned that theres an 8-pin plug installed with the vehicle, and if I want the BMW OEM trailer wiring installed, it attaches to that 8-pin plug, along with other wiring modifications, and then the vehicles ECM Engine Control Module has to be programmed at a BMW dealer. I suppose the Tekonsha wiring system bypasses the BMW integrated circuitry. Is that true? Is there any impact on the vechicles stability control system, or traction control? Im guessing that if BMW installs the trailer wiring, and reprograms the ECM, it adjusts the stability and traction control accordingly. Any insight is appreciated.

The Upgraded Heavy Duty ModuLite Circuit Protected Vehicle Wiring Harness # 119147KIT is the correct kit for your 2014 BMW X3 xDrive28i. There are no plug and play options aside from that factory wiring you described.
The installation of this wiring harness won't interfere with the stability control or traction control or anything else. The only thing it does is tap into the light functions on your vehicle so the trailer lights have power when your vehicle lights activate. So basically it does what you said and bypasses the BMW systems.
