Part Needed for Adding a 5-Way to a 2019 Ford Escape for Towing a Boat Trailer
Question:
I have a 2019 Ford escape with factory 4 pin trailer plug. I need to adapt it to 5 pin for boat trailer. Does the backup light circuit have enough power to work the surge brake backup solenoid?

Helpful Expert Reply:
For your application I recommend installing the Tow Ready 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter # 20036 on your 2019 Ford Escape. This plugs into your current 4-Way and then has the 5-Way connector and a lead for you to splice into the reverse light circuit on your vehicle.
The backup solenoid doesn't take much power to activate so you won't have any issues with compatibility.
