Recommended 7-Way Connector and Brake Controller for a 2020 BMW X3
Question:
Hi, I have a 2020 BMW X3 M40i. I installed the T-one wiring harness and have the Draw-tite class III trailer hitch. If I wanted to tow a RV trailer, what is the product I would need to add to my car for electric braking capabilities? Thanks,

Since your 2020 BMW X3 M40i already has a 4-way connector, you will need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller item # ETBC7. The kit includes a pre-wired 7- and 4-way trailer connector that mounts easily at the rear of your BMW with an included bracket. This kit is designed for use on a vehicle with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it.
You will then connect the blue wire to the blue wire on the brake controller, connect the black wire to the positive post on the X3's battery, the white wire to ground, and the yellow wire to vehicle's reverse circuit if applicable. This will provide you with the ability to control your trailer's brakes and also provide you with a 12v power wire for you trailer's accessory lights.
For a brake controller, I recommend the Redarc Tow-Pro Liberty Brake Controller item # RED24FR. The Liberty is a proportional brake controller that activates your trailer's brakes when your BMW decelerates. It also has a unique installation method where the main portion of the brake controller is installed behind your dash and the only visible portion is the control knob.
You will also need the Universal Wiring Harness for Redarc Tow-Pro Trailer Brake Controllers item # RED69FR to complete your installation.
There are no custom fit options for a 7-way connector or a brake controller adapter.
