Recommended Ladder Rack And Tonneau Cover Combination For A 2023 Toyota Tundra 5.5' Bed

Question:

Hello, we have a 2023 Toyota Tundra with a 5 1/2 foot bed. It has a Undercover Ultra Flex hard folding tonneau cover already installed. We would like to add an over bed rack for carrying our bikes and skis. In addition we would like it to accommodate side rails so we can use it for our shovel, traction pads and extra gas/water. What rack do you recommend for us? Thank you,

Expert Reply:

Since the UnderCover Ultra Flex hard-folding tonneau cover clamps to the inner lip of your Tundra's bedrails the only option that would be compatible would be a stake pocket mounted ladder rack. Some Tundra models don't come with a front and rear stake pockets or won't have them cut out so you would need to verify this first.

If you do have stake pockets then you could use a ladder rack like the Adarac Pro Series Custom Truck Bed Ladder Rack # A42BG. This wouldn't have side rails like you were wanting, but is the only option compatible with the tonneau cover you have.

The only way to realistically get what you're wanting would be to remove the current tonneau cover and replace it with one like the RetraxONE XR Hard Tonneau Cover # RTX97XR, which has accessory t-slots. From there you could use a ladder rack like the Yakima OverHaul HD Adjustable Truck Bed Ladder Rack for Tonneau Cover # Y01151-5955, which mount in the t-slots in the rails of the cover.

This ladder rack also has optional side rails with part # Y01153, which will allow you to haul your shovel, traction pads, and other gear.
