Recommended Flat Towing Set Up for a 2013 Chevy Equinox

Question:

Hello, I was interested in the Roadmaster RM-522 All Terrain tow bar as I am putting together a list for flat towing our 2013 Chevy Equinox. On one of your videos the Tech guy says this towbar comes with safety cables. Is this accurate or do I need to buy them separately? Thanks.

The Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain Tow Bar item # RM-522 does not include safety cables but would be a great option to use with a 2013 Chevy Equinox. For safety cables you will want the RoadMaster 68" Single Hook, Coiled Safety Cables item # RM-643.

To flat tow your 2013 Chevy Equinox you will need the parts listed below. I have linked any installation videos we may have along with the instructions.

Base Plate Kit - Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit - Removable Arms item # RM-523160-5

Wiring Harness - Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit item # RM-15267

Charge Line - Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles item # RM-156-25

Supplemental Braking System - Blue Ox Patriot Radio Frequency item # BLU37TR

High Low Adapter - The tow bar needs to be within 3" of level. If you measure the height of the inside top of the hitch receiver tube on your RV, and the height difference is more than 3 inches above/below the base plate tab height, you'll need a high/low adapter. I have linked a FAQ article that explains all this in more detail along with our selection of adapters.

Fuse Bypass - As per GM Technical Service Bulletin 17-NA-348, GM has identified 4-cylinder models of this vehicle as having steering instability issues while towing. If you have a 4-cylinder model of this vehicle, you will need a item # RM-76517 instead of item # RM76511, and will need to leave fuse DLIS 32 intact and pull the ABS module fuse located under the hood. Note: due to manufacturing variances, some 4-cylinder models may label the ABS module fuse as 15 or 16.
