Troubleshooting 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch To Pin Box Compatibility Issues
Question:
Thank you, yes I am not real familiar with the trailer terms, the hitch is what I was referring to. So yeah his pinbox is stationary like mine is, but it has a square wedge welded behind the king pin I guess his hitch rotates and slides where as mine was a husky ez roll 16k pretty standard slide hitch, if Im using these terms correctly? And like you said the king pin is what rotates in the jaws, so he has the brand new hitch it mounts to rails the same as mine did, so I guess I would need the wedge behind my king pin Installed??? Im just having a hard time finding a replacement head assembly for my hitch everything I see on the web looks a bit different than mine Im just trying to avoid having to replace everything as its costly

Ok, so the wedge is typically not welded on unless it's like the Demco to MORryde Locking Plate # DM6025. Typically they'll be bolted to a rod with a reel that will allow you to slide it back and forth to get it in the right position for the hitch.
A wedge kit or capture plates should only be used if you have a rotating pin box or a sliding hitch with a head that rotates as it slides back like the Demco Autsolide # DM8550034 does. Your Husky EZ-Roll is a standard hitch that needs the king pin to rotate inside of the jaws in order for you to make turns. You'll want a standard pin box without a wedge for use with your specific hitch.
We no longer carry the Husky brand, and it's not really that popular, so finding a replacement hitch head would mean you'd most likely need to reach out to the manufacturer directly. If you can't get a replacement head then you'd be looking at needing a totally new sliding hitch. I'd love to recommend one for you but before I do I'd want to see the pin box you're connecting to so that I can 100% confirm exactly what you need so that there's no more broken hitches. Send me some pictures and we can figure out the right solution for you.
