How to Install Aftermarket Brake Controller in a 2014 Chevy 3500 with Factory Brake Controller

Question:

I have a 2014 Chevy 3500 4x4 DRW and it came with a factory in-dash brake controller. I need to install a hydraulic/electric controller such as a tekonsha P3. How do I accomplish this? Can both controllers run together or do I need to somehow disconnect the factory controller, and how?

Only one brake controller can be functional at a time. The factory controller will be bypassed but it would not need to be removed.
