Is There a Real Benefit of a Class III Hitch Over a Class II Hitch for a 2015 Subaru Outback
Question:
Hello-Question concerning hitches for a 2015 Subaru Outback 2.5L. Is there any reason to install a class III hitch when a class II hitch rating already exceeds my MGTrailerW of 2700 lbs. and MGTongueW of 200 lbs. Thankyou

Yes, a class III hitch comes with a 2" receiver and a class II hitch comes with a 1-1/4" receiver. The larger 2" receiver allows for a much greater variety of hitch mounted accessories to choose from. Therefore, although you can't carry or pull more weight with the class III because the vehicle is rated lower, it's still beneficial because it allows for greater compatibility. Honestly, I really can't think of too many good reasons to install a class II over a class III when one is available. I recommend the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver part # e98847 which features an easy bolt-on install and has a class III rating which means it comes with the larger receiver size.
The class II hitch would be marginally more cost effective than a class III and hang down slightly less but none of that is worth what the class III hitch offers.
