Troubleshooting A Valterra Electric Waste Valve That Keeps Blowing The Fuse

Question:

When the valve closes it trips the breaker. Opens fine no issue, when closing it reaches the end of travel and does not turn the light off on the switch. After a couple second delay it trips the fuse. Is there a travel limit switch that is not being met? Thanks,

I spoke with Valterra and they stated that there's a microswitch inside of the Valterra EZ Valve Electric Waste Valve # E40B-8 that isn't sensing that the gate is fully closing causing the fuse to blow. This could be either an obstruction blocking the gate or just something on the sensor itself. I recommend using a hose to try and clean out the line and seeing if that solves the issue. You can hook on an adapter like the Valterra Hydroflush Reverse Flush Adapter # F02-4110 to connect a garden hose and clean the tank and line out.

If that doesn't work then you'll need to take the gate valve off and take a look at what the issue could be. To do this you'll want to remove the four mounting bolts on the gate valve and then you can remove it for inspection. I've attach a short video below where I do this with a double waste valve to give you a better idea of what to do. You'll definitely want to wear gloves and wash your tank out good before removing the valve.

Let me know what you find and we can further troubleshoot to get your waste valve back in working order.
