Supplemental Braking System For 1998 Ford F-150 Being Flat Towed
Question:
Can this unit be used to control hydraulic brakes on a 98 ford f 150 being towed behind a motor home? HS381-9066

Expert Reply:
It cannot, as the system you mentioned is for trailer brakes; what you need is a supplemental braking system designed for flat towing, and for your 1998 Ford F-150 I like the Brake Buddy Classic 3 Portable Supplemental Braking System # HM39494.
This will activate the brakes in your F-150 and is a portable system which means it isn't a permanent install so if you change your towed vehicle you can still use it and not have to buy a brand new system. The other parts needed to flat tow your '98 F-150 are as follows (please note the base plates are different depending on if your F-150 is 2WD or 4WD):
- 2WD Base Plate: Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit # 492-1
OR
- 4WD Base Plate: Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plate Kit # 456-15
- etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Roadmaster Crossbar-Style Base Plates # e44ZR
- Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267
