Recommended Flat Towing Components For A 2015 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

Question:

Hi There, I have a 2015 Jeep Wrangler unlimited. I replaced the stock bumper with a Rugged Ridge Spartan. RR says its not rated for flat towing. It does have bolted on 1 inch D rings, but I guess I will need to get a base plate for flat towing? Can you recommend a base plate and a Tow bar? Thanks in advance for your help!

Since Rugged Ridge didn't approve flat towing by the D-Rings on the Spartan bumper you would have to go with a standard baseplate instead of using a D-Ring adapter. There is not a confirmed fitting baseplate for that specific bumper though so you'd most likely have to revert back to your standard bumper as it could interfere with the mounting of the baseplate. You could try installing one and seeing if there's enough room though to try and avoid switching back.

For the baseplate I recommend the Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plate Kit # RM-521448-5.

For the tow bar I recommend the etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar for Roadmaster Direct-Connect Base Plates # e74ZR. This tow bar comes with safety cables included and has an adjustable head and shank to help stay level without having to also purchase a high/low adapter.

You'll also want to pick up the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 to display your motorhome's brake and turn signals through the tail lights on your Wrangler to remain street legal.

For the braking system I recommend going with a permanent system so that you're ready to go with no setup after the initial installation. If your motorhome has air brakes then you'll want the Demco Air Force One Supplemental Braking System for Motor Homes with Air Brakes # SM99243. For hydraulic brakes you'll want the Demco SBS Stay-IN-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251. Both of these systems are the top of the line from both a usage and installation standpoint.
