2023 Chevrolet Equinox Battery Drains During Flat Tow Because of Daytime Running Lights

Question:

When I prepare my equinox 2023 to be towed with my RV. I do what manual says, first turn on, engage all wheel drive, disengage the parking break, set to neutral and push the start button without pressing the brake. It goes to standby, then turn off all the devices but the Day running lights DRL stays on draining the battery. Cant find a way to turn they off. Thanks

I took a look at the owners manual for your 2023 Chevrolet Equinox. While there is nothing mentioned about the Daytime Running lights under the dingy towing section, there was information on how to turn them off under the Daytime Running Lights (DRL) section. You will need to turn the knob on the lever to the power symbol to turn them off. I have included a picture from the owners manual that talks about this.

The other thing is that according to the owners manual, you will need to charge the battery while flat towing (dingy towing). This can be accomplished by adding a charge line.

- Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Towed Vehicles # RM-156-25

If your motorhome does not already have a charge line, one can be added using the Roadmaster Battery Charge Line Kit for Motorhomes # RM-156-75.

That charge line does nothing. Battery still goes dead.

@BernieW Does your motorhome's 12v power pin show power when the motorhome is running? You might not have a charge line ran on the motorhome side so nothing is transferring over to the towed vehicle's battery. IF this is the case you'll want part # RM-156-75

@KevinC The 12v power pin is working. There is too much “draw” on that Equinox. Even the rear wiper - when not on -draws 6 or 8 amps. Crazy vehicle to tow!

@Berniew What year is your Equinox? Most Chevy Equinox's require that you disconnect the battery, remove specific fuses, or do both to prevent battery drain.
