Recommendation to Help Prevent a Lowered 2011 Ram 1500 From Bottoming Out When Trailer Towing

Question:

I have a 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 sport. I am wanting to do a 2/4 lowering kit but need to be able to tow my car trailer also. What is the best way to prevent bottoming out in the rear when towing? Can I use air bag helper springs to raise the rear of the truck back up when I am towing?

Expert Reply:

Using a weight distribution system like the Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37100ET will help you reduce rear end sag while towing. This can help you with bottoming out while towing a car trailer. The Firestone Coil-to-Air-Spring Conversion Kit # F2595 you are looking at for your 2011 Ram 1500 Sport is only going to be for vehicles which continue to ride at stock height. That is true for all of our air bag helper spring systems and they are only designed to help reduce sag and increase stability, not for lifting your vehicle suspension.

The Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System # EQ37100ET is rated for a trailer with 600-1,000lbs of tongue weight and a total weight loaded under 10,000lbs. It will also help to reduce trailer sway and making towing safer. You will need a 1-7/8" 12pt Thin Walled Socket # ALL643216 to install the included 2-5/16" hitch ball.
