Replacement Connector for SnowBear Trailer with 5 Wires

Question:

I recently bought a Snowbear trailer with a 5 wire flat connector and what has me puzzled , not ever seeing a connector like this . On the trailer connector it has a female connector for the ground but doesn’t have any male or female connectors for the other 4 . I scraped some of the rubber covering off of those an there is metal behind them . The only thing I can imagine is , some kind of magnetic connection . It has the snowbear lettering molded into plug . Thanks .

I do have an option for you but I don't have much information on what type of trailer connectors these trailers used from the factory. It could be an odd style of trailer connector or a standard one that is badly damaged. That said, in either case, it would need to be replaced for a standard style which can attach to modern vehicles. I recommend using the Hopkins Endurance 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector part # HM48110 or the Hopkins Endurance 5-Way Flat Trailer Connector part # HM47910. If the trailer has anything else besides the standard lighting signals (Running/Brake/Turn) such as a surge brake system with electric lockout or reverse lights you would need to use the 5-way, otherwise the 4-way is standard.

Please note, five wires does not mean the trailer has a 5-way. If the trailer has a wishbone trailer wiring harness for example, there are two brown running light wires for a total of five but there are only four pins therefore the trailer needs a 4-way.

In order to install the new trailer connector, I recommend using the Hopkins Trailer Wiring Installation Kit part # HM51010 which has everything you need if you don't have it already.
