How To Select The Correct Steel Tubing For Building a 2,000LB Trailer Axle?

Question:

I got these 8inch tires and a pair of 1000lb torsion stubs from you for a small motorcycle trailer I want to build. Now Im unsure what size square tube to use for the axle and couldnt find a source of info on it. The axle will be 50inch long. I was thinking 2x2x3/16, but maybe it should be 1/4, or maybe 1/8inch would be enough?

Your best source for selecting the correct steel is going to be with the steel company you will be purchasing the steel from. As there is different types of steel they will be able to help you identify the correct thickness and size for building a 50" axle with the Spindle # TRU97FR, Hub # AKIHUB-545-2-G-1K and Wheel & Tire # AM30150.
