Correct Braking Assemblies for Rockwood Ultra Lite with Dexter 4k Axle

Question:

I own a 2020 twin axle Rockwood Ultra Lite Travel Trailer. The dry weight is 6,962 lbs, GVWR is 8,796 lbs and my actual loaded weight is 8,300 lbs. I am planning to do a brake job in the near future. The original brakes are the dexter 10” never adjust, 2 1/4” pad. The axles are each rated at 4,000 lbs. How can I determine if I need the 3,500 lbs brake assembly kit or the 4,400 lbs kit? How can I determine what is currently on the TT? I see there is a big difference in the price between the two kits. Thank you.

The correct braking assembly kit for a Dexter 4,000 Lb Axle is the Dexter Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # K23-462-463-00 for manual adjust or Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # K23-478-479 for self-adjust. These are almost the same as the brakes for a Dexter 3,500 Lb Axle expect for the magnet size which is much smaller therefore they are weaker and the mounting flange pattern is slightly different. Please note, manual adjust brakes require user adjustments every so often whereas self-adjust brakes adjust automatically.

If you also need a new hub/drum, the correct option for this is the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly part # K08-426-91.
