Recommended Replacement Roof Rack For A 2022 Toyota RAV4 With An Older Thule Mountaineer Cargo Box
Question:
Hi I have a 2022 RAV4 with a factory rack. I have and older Thule mountaineer with I think they are the quick mount system. The mounting holes did not match the factory rack spacing. Would using Thule rack be more adjustable to fit the box or do they mount into the same factory spots? I read elsewhere on this board that I could drill new mounting holes. Also is there a recommended amount of front overhang?

The simplest solution is to drill new holes on your Thule Mountaineer cargo carrier so that you can move the quick mount system to fit your factory crossbars.
This would be the cheapest and quickest solution to get your cargo box to fit but I realize that not everyone would want to drill into their cargo box.
In that case, the best recommendation I can offer is to get a new set of crossbars. I recommend checking out the:
-Thule WingBar Evo Crossbars # TH711420, with the Evo Fixpoint Feet for Thule Evo Crossbars # TH49SC, and the Fit Kit for Thule Evo Fixpoint and Edge Fixpoint Roof Rack Feet # TH78RE.
These crossbars will mount to your existing factory rails and should allow you to adjust the bars enough to accommodate for your cargo box.
Additionally for front overhang, some overhang is fine but too much overhang to where it obstructs your view may damage your roof rack, vehicle, or cargo box.
