Battery Dies After Installing Curt Harness # C56208 On My Vehicle

Question:

Hi I installed a hitch and the CURT 56208 Vehicle-Side Custom 4-Pin Trailer Wiring Harness and I believe it is draining my battery causing dead battery and the SSS misfire. What could be the issue to fixing this.

There could be a few reasons that is causing your battery to drain after installing The Curt Harness # C56208. I recommend first testing to see if you have a bad converter box. While the fuse is in place, test the 4-way flat connector on the harness without any vehicle lights on using The Hook Probe Circuit Tester # PTW2993. You will need to test each pin. If you're getting a constant power at any of the pins with the vehicle lights off, then the converter box is bad and would need to be replaced.

If the 4-flat connector is working properly, there is another thing to consider. In some rare cases with vehicles being a few years old that still have the same battery, we have found out that the battery will die or be close to dead when the installation is complete. This is because the rear hatch, side doors, or hood were left open for many hours causing the interior lights to be on the entire time.

If the 4-flat connector is functioning correctly and the vehicle battery is now charged install the fuse into the fuse holder to see if the battery dies again. If there is no power coming out of the converter box, it would be very difficult for the converter box to drain a vehicle battery. The converter box on this harness only draws a few milliamps that would not affect the battery.

I attached a review video showing how the probe circuit tester is used. If this still does not fix the situation please feel free to reach back out to me anytime and I will be more than happy to further assist you in your towing endeavors.
