How to Prevent the Pin Box from Hitting the Bed Rails on a 2012 Chevrolet 3500 Dually
Question:
I have a curt 24q hitch and a Dutchman voltage pulled with a 21012 chevy 3500 dually and I am hitting the bedrails on less than a 45 degree turn I have a trail air pin box. do you have a suggestion on what I can change pin box or 5th wheel receiver to stop this from damaging my truck

Expert Reply:
Your best option is to adjust the height of the fifth wheel hitch if possible. The Curt Q24 fifth wheel hitch is height adjustable from 13 inches to 17 inches. If you can raise the height of the fifth wheel hitch, try that first.
There are other fifth wheel hitches on the market with a greater height adjustability such as the Husky Silver Series 26K Fifth Wheel Hitch, # HT31318-31325. It can be raised to 19-1/4 inches tall.
If raising the hitch or replacing the hitch is not an option, then my next recommendation would be to replace the trail air pin box on your trailer with a Sidewinder pin box. Sidewinder pin boxes change the pivot point from the fifth wheel hitch to the turret, which attaches to the mounting brackets on the trailer. The pin box itself would stay in place and only the trailer would rotate, leaving the sides of your truck bed untouched.
Sidewinder pin boxes are designed to replace specific OEM pin boxes. If you can tell me the model number of your Trailair pin box or the manufacturer and model number of the OEM pin box that was on your trailer, I will be happy to make a recommendation for you.
