Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack That Allows 2012 Acura MDX Hatch to Open with Bikes Loaded

Question:

Will the rear hatch of an MDX 2012 clear the bike rack when it is tilted down while loaded with 2 or 4 bikes?

We have not tested the Yakima HoldUp, # Y02443, on an Acura MDX so I cannot be sure. However, based on how the rack works on other vehicles you would most likely not be able to raise the hatch with the bikes still loaded and the rack tilted down.

For nearly complete access to the back of the vehicle i recommend a swinging bike rack like the Thule Apex, # TH9027XT. The swinging bike racks will swing off to the side of the vehicle, with bikes loaded, and allow you to open the rear hatch on the vehicle. It is by far the best rack to go with if you need access to the back of the vehicle and do not want to unload bike every time. I have linked a video review of this rack for you.

If you will be carrying any bikes that do not have a top frame bar that goes straight across (like a typical mens bike would) then I recommend using bike adapter bar # TH982XT. This will allow you to carry those bikes more level and will provide better ground clearance. I have to use these adapters and without them my wifes bike would be at a severe angle and I would not be able to load my sons bike at all. I have linked a video showing how the adapter works.
