Installing a Thule OutWay Trunk Mount Bike Rack on a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question:

Have you experienced an installation with the TH45JV on a vehicle that has a power liftgate? I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a power liftgate no hitch and Im hesitant about purchasing due to the lower cables needing to be installed with a slight lift of the door. If I were to open the door slightly, it would continue to raise unless I stop it...which is fine however, I dont want to hinder the operation of the door, or its motor, by this process. Any advise?

You may not have to open the hatch to install the lower hooks of the Thule OutWay # TH45JV. Usually on a vehicle with a rear hatch you can get the hooks in at the corners without having to open the hatch. You would then just slide them over into position. This is what I have to do on my PT Cruiser and my wife's Santa Fe and it works well.

On a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee it looks like you would have to start the bottom hooks just below the tail lights and then slide them down from there. I made you a video showing how this is done on a 2012 (I said 2011 in the video but it is a 2012) that has the same issue. It is actually very easy on this generation of the Jeep Grand Cherokee.
