Recommended Fifth Wheel Hitch for a 2017 GMC Sierra 3500 w/ OEM Prep Package and 8 Ft Bed
Question:
I have a 2017 GMC Sierra 3500HD DRW with the puck system am looking at purchasing a fifth wheel camper for the first time. I’m trying to determine the best hitch/adapter to purchase. My priorities are the most secure and comfortable ride. I’m not as concerned about bed space since the truck is mostly used for camping trips and rarely gets driven other than that. Thanks

By far the best 5th Wheel Hitches on the market are made by B&W. For your 2017 GMC Sierra 3500 with the factory prep package, you are going to want the B&W Companion OEM 5th Wheel Hitch item # BWRVK3700.
B&W's Companion Hitches have 1" thick dual jaws that will provide a 360-degree jaw-to-king-pin contact. This will give you less rattle and a much better connection then hitches with slide-bar jaws. As far as comfort goes this will also lead to less jarring and chucking. A by product of this is a quieter trip because the king pin moves around less.
I have linked a video below that will show you the installation process and the features I mentioned.
The B&W Companion weighs over 150 lbs. If that's not something you're interested in moving by yourself and don't want to have to rely on someone to help you then I recommend purchasing the B&W 5th Wheel Lifting Device for Companion and Patriot Hitches item # BWRVXA3130. This heavy duty steel tool lets you lift your B&W 5th-wheel hitch from your truck bed with a hoist. The 5th-Wheel jaws clamp around the device for a secure grip.
