7-Way Vehicle Power Adapter for Activating Low Amp Trailer Lights
Question:
I don’t have trailer lights on my boat trailer connected to my 2021 gmc Denali 1500 pu. I took pu to dealer who found nothing wrong but blamed the wiring used to also tow pu behind Motorhome. That is diode kit and road master brake controller. A tester plugged into trailer plug does not work but I see faint flashes on tester. I have since read for pu to recognize a trailer there needs to be a 5 amp draw on each light on trailer. The leds on trailer do not draw that much. I see a need to build device that will add 5 amp draw to trailer lights. Does this sound ok and is there a 7 pin tester that will draw this current?

Yes, that all sounds correct. The computer systems on the newer trucks require a constant draw to provide power to the vehicle's 7-Way connector. To work around this you will need the 7-Way Vehicle Power Adapter item # FR87PR. This plugs directly into your 7-way connectors and provides enough power from your Denali to register your tail lights and to activate them.
I have linked a review video below that will show you how this product works. It was originally designed to power cameras and provide a steady flow of current but it will work for your trailer lights too.
