How to test Hopkins Trailer Breakaway Kit when LED test light doesn't work

Question:

I have a Hopkins engager system but when I push the test button no lights come on. Its hooked to the truck while running and has a good ground. I charged the battery, cleaned the terminals, and have continuity through all the wires. Am I missing something? The trailer brakes appear to work as they should. Any thoughts on why the test lights on the Hopkins battery box no longer work? Thank you for your help.

Since the test light isn't illuminating on your Hopkins Engager Push-To-Test Trailer Breakaway Kit w/ Built-In Charger - Side Load - 7" Wire # 20099, it sounds like it could be one of the following issues:

-test light is burnt out
-breakaway kit is faulty
-wiring is incorrect or damaged

I would start by unplugging the trailer wiring connector from the tow vehicle, then pull the lanyard pin on the breakaway system and see if your trailer brakes are engaged when you try to slowly pull the trailer with the tow vehicle (do so in an empty parking lot to ensure safety). If the trailer brakes engage, then the breakaway switch is working and the LED light is likely burnt out.

If the above method doesn't work, I would check that all wiring and connections are 100% correct (check the attached image). If all wiring is correct, then the unit is defective and needs replaced.
