Where Does 12V Power on Vehicle 7-Way Come From
Question:
where does the trailer 12v power originate from on the tow vehicle for the trailer 12v power

The 12V power pin on a vehicle 7-Way originates from the vehicle battery. What it runs through and how it gets to the back of the vehicle can vary depending on what the vehicle is equipped with. Some vehicles will run it through their computer system while others will use a wiring kit like our Universal # ETBC7 which runs the wiring straight from the battery, through an auto circuit breaker, and directly to the 7-Way (see wiring diagram).
If you're trying to troubleshoot that wire you'll want to trace the wire connected to the 12V power pin (1 o'clock position) on your 7-Way up to your vehicle battery. If it looks like it's hooked to a factory tow package you'll want to trace the wire as much as you can and check any fuses related to that circuit (check your owner's manual for those locations).
I'm attaching a helpful article on 7-Way wiring for you to check out as well.
