Weight Capacity With Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver C95CR On a 2020 Acura RDX

Question:

A 2020 Acura RDX comes with only a 1.25inch hitch receiver and 1,500 towing capacity. I bought your CLASS 3 TRAILER HITCH, 2inch RECEIVER, #C95CR, which has 3,500 towing capacity and 350 tongue weight. My question is whether I can use a cargo/motorcycle carrier that weighs 325 pounds loaded. Its less than your tongue weight specification, but I wonder whether bumps put much more weight on the tongue. Ive also heard not to exceed 10 of towing capacity when loading the tongue regardless of whether you are below the rated tongue rating, and Im not sure if I should be referring to your hitchs 3,500 towing capacity or the original cars 1,500 towing capacity for this purpose.

The ratings on the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C95CR are the weights that Curt built the receiver to be capable of supporting. You will want to verify with an Acura dealer exactly how much weight your 2020 RDX is capable of supporting. The limiting factor may be part of the drivetrain or the frame capacity and not the factory 1-1/4" receiver.

You may need to use a small Utility Trailer # K2MMT4X6 if they say your RDX cannot support that much tongue weight. A 4-way harness will be needed for the trailer. You will need to determine if you have the 12 volt power provision for Kit # 118800 or no provision # 118804. The dealership will be able to help you with this otherwise you will need to remove the driver's side rear cargo area panel and determine if the factory connector has one or two red wires in the 8 pin connector. If you have 2 red wires that is for the 12 volt power provision.
