I was able to find a copy of the owners manual online for the 2005 Mercury Monterey. In the manual, starting on page 205 in the recreational towing section it states that if the vehicle is front wheel drive is must be towed on a dolly with the front wheels off the ground. There is no other information other than that.
For a tow dolly you can use # RM-20050-1. This is a great option if you will be towing the vehicle frequently. But if you only need the dolly one or two times it would be better to rent one.
The tow dolly we carry comes with all the bells and whistles including electric brakes, wheel nets to secure the wheels to the dolly, lights, and adjustable width and ramps. A brake controller is needed in the tow vehicle to activate the trailer brakes. If you like the tow dolly but need a brake controller I would need to know what the tow vehicle is and what kind of trailer connector it has to recommend one and the parts needed to install it.
