Does Hitch Need to be Replaced on 2015 Dodge Durango Involved in Collision
Question:
My tow vehicle was involved in a rear end collision last week. I have a 2015 Dodge Durango with the factory installed tow package. The hitch was hit dead on and I can see the safety chain connection points have been bent under. Im concerned about the towing integrity of the hitch after this. Can you give me some advise on what to look out for? I take my vehicle into the shop on Monday. My trailer, an A frame, is packed away for winter so I may not know of any problems that were not fixed properly until spring.

If the OEM hitch on your 2015 Dodge Durango took the brunt of the damage to the point the safety chain loops were bent then that leads me to believe there could very well be other damage to the hitch and you'll want to look for places where the paint is chipping away or you see any stress fractures.
It might be best to just swap out to an aftermarket trailer hitch like the Draw-Tite # DT38MR so you know the hitch integrity hasn't been compromised but you might wait to see what your shop tells you since they will know what to look for.
Attached is an installation video of this hitch on a 2018 Durango for you to check out.
