Solution for Installing B and W Companion Hitch in Flat Bed Truck with Only Slightly Raised Bed

Question:

I am looking to install a B and W Companion Hitch on my 98 dodge ram with a aluminum flatbed. My flatbed is mounted between .5-1inch higher than the factory bed plus the additional thickness of the deck of bed which around 2. If i install BWGNRK1394-5W i suspect it will be about 2.5inch below the deck of the bed. Will BWRVK3500-5W work if the socket is recessed below the deck 2.5? What is the max the socket can be recessed for BWRVK3500-5W to work?

Since you have a flat bed that sits a little higher than the gooseneck hitch you'd need is the part # BWGNRK1500 which you'll have to have fabricated to install in bed of your truck. This will allow the hitch to be at the correct height so that you could use a standard Companion B and W Hitch part # BWRVK3500 like you are wanting. If you installed the # BWGNRK1394 it would sit too far below the top of the flat bed for the hitch to fit.
