Shorter Shank Recommendation for the Swagman Dispatch # S44FR

Question:

Do you have a shank that is 6 inches shorter? I don’t like how far this sticks out behind my motorhome. Shorter would put less stress on the hitch less leverage. Pedals and handlebars would still have clearance.

While we do have an alternative for you, Swagman does not make a shorter replacement shank that is compatible with your Swagman Dispatch Bike Rack # S44FR. That is because the replacement shank # SP474 designed to replace the current shank is a direct replacement of the same length. We also do not carry a shorter shank that is engineered to work with the Dispatch.

With that being said, the only option is to get a shorter rack measured from the pinhole to the farthest edge of the carrier. For a great option, I recommend the Swagman XC2 # S64650. Measured from the center of the shank's pinhole the rack only measures 17" to the furthest part of the carrier compared to the 29" of the Dispatch. With this difference, the XC2 sits 12" closer to your motorhome. Also, the XC2 is approved to withstand the extra torque/force exerted on the rack when mounted to your motorhome's hitch.

For a cable lock and a hitch lock to protect your bikes and the XC2, that is the # S64031.

I went ahead and attached a demo video of the XC2 to this answer.
