Compatibility Of 1-1/4 to 2 Hitch Adapter On a 2021 Volvo XC60 With Class I Receiver
Question:
I have a 2021 Volvo XC60 with a Volvo 1 1/4inch hitch receiver. I have purchased this style adapter, but it does not fit the receiver. It could not be pushed into the receiver far enough. I was told at the local trailer supply store that Volvo receivers are European style and did not fit this sort of adapter and that I would need to have an adaptor fabricated. Does this adaptor fit a European style receiver? If not, can you suggest an adaptor that will work?

I do have a recommendation for you as it sounds like you have a class I receiver with a stop on your 2021 Volvo XC60. The stop prevents class II accessories like the etrailer Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter # e43YR from being used. It has a measurement of 2" from the receiver pin center hole to the end of the receiver tube. The Brophy Hitch Adapter # HTAD is 1/2" shorter from the receiver pin hole to the end of the shank at 1-1/2".
You could also consider installing a Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C53HR to then have a 2" receiver on your Volvo.
