Troubleshooting Curt Venture Brake Controller that Applies Brakes too Hard

Sounds like your Curt Venture brake controller part # C74VV is applying your trailer brakes too hard. What you would need to do is lower the sync setting which will allow the brakes to apply less aggressively. The sync setting is the black adjustment knob on the left side of the controller behind the mounting bracket.
The adjustment on the top of the controller is the max power output. If the brakes were locking up you'd need to back this off a bit.
