Low Power with Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller Using Brake Pedal While Stopped
Question:
Just bought a couple of things to make my truck able to tow 7 prong trailers . I got the P3 and have been testing without a trailer . I dont have access to a trailer right now . The thing that concerns me is on my 2006 f150 when I press the brake all the way down the bar on the left of the controller goes up but only to the first line now matter how much I press on or off the brake . Shouldnt bit be going all the way to the top based on the precent I press the pedal ? I usually tow with much new vehicles that I know measure how far my foot is pushed down but I am not sure if my truck is too old and uses only inertia or something .Lastly it is hooked directly to the clip under the dash .

The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 Trailer Brake Controller part # 90195 is a proportional trailer brake controller which uses an internal inertia sensor to sense acceleration and deceleration. Therefore, the brake controller won't send full brake output to the trailer while the vehicle is stopped with the pedal. It will however show full power with the override while stopped if turned up so that is one way to test but low power with the brake pedal while stopped does not indicate any issue with a proportional brake controller.
