Troubleshooting LED Trailer Lights Activating Truck's Taillights
Question:
Have any of you helped people with the issue of LED trailer lights back feeding voltage back to the tow vehicle causing parking lights on trailer to come on with brake lights and turn signals? We hooked my friends older truck to our trailer and the lights work fine. Plug our 2014 Ram 1500 into our trailer and the lights backfeed voltage. Is it with the vehicles computer that it does this? We put standard 1157 bulbs back into our trailer and everything works fine. We use to tow our trailer with an older express van that had no issues. We just got this Dodge ram and are now experiencing this issue. Problem has been corrected going back to standard bulbs but what is the reason that you guys now of. Is there a brand of LED stop/turn running lights that doesnt cause this issue that can be used on our trailer? Thanks for any info.

That's an odd issue to have that we can't say we've seen specifically but LED taillights do sometimes cause odd issues since they require a fraction of the amperage and voltage to activate. One solution would be to use an adapter like the part # C57003 which puts diodes on the trailer light circuits that would absorb any excess voltage.
