Wiring Change in 2013 Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup Affecting Aftermarket Brake Controller Installation
Question:
I took my new 2013 dodge ram 1500 to my local camping world to have my prodigy 2 brake control installed. They said it wont work because dodge changed the setup on 2013s and it has to be wired to the CPU. So I have to buy dodges brake control and have the dealership install it. Is this true? Also, he said this was a mid production change.

It is correct that Dodge made changes to the vehicle wiring for brake controllers in their 2013 model year Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup. The changes relate to the use of a new multiplex wiring system. I have linked an article that explains this change.
Although the under-dash connection port appears identical to earlier model years the assignment of the functions on the various wires has changed. The terminal that used to be the stop light signal, now has battery voltage whenever the ignition is in the run position.
You do not need to purchase an OEM brake controller from Dodge; you can still use your Tekonsha Prodigy P2 in your 2013 Ram. All you will need is a new wiring harness that is pinned out according to the new Dodge wiring scheme. The part you need is a harness # 3023-P.
