Compatibility of Offset Gooseneck Ball With Adapter on 2021 Ford F-150 Short Bed
Question:
With an F150 5.5 bed, is there an adapter that would be compatible with a gooseneck under bed hitch? Perhaps, the Drawtite # 6300-4491 with 5 ball extender and a Ranch Hitch Adapter AM3139. Please bear in mind the Grand Design 5th wheel is fairly light 7500 lbs. with 1300 lb. pin weight. Thanks in advance!

Expert Reply:
The Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter w/8" Offset for Short-Bed Trucks # AM3139 can be used with an underbed hitch like the Remov-A-Ball Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # 6300-4491. However, if you have the # 6300-4491 there is not an offset ball that will fit. On top of that, the Ranch Hitch adapter cannot be used with a gooseneck ball that has an offset.
If you don't already have a hitch installed, I recommend the B&W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # BW77FR over the Draw-Tite. You would be able to use the 4" Offset Ball for B&W Turnoverball Gooseneck Trailer Hitches # BWGNXA4085 with this hitch.
For an adapter, you could use the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter w/ Offset - 12" to 16" Tall # CAB-C5GX1216. This can be used with an offset ball. The only issue you may have with this combination is that the trailer's pin weight will be pushed back further. This has the potential to cause an uneven ride in the truck since the front may be lifted slightly with the change in physics.
I have attached some review videos for your reference.
